High school program

#4. Adult Program for Civic Groups, Churches or Other Organizations

The five topics.
In my adult program there are several different topics that we can cover. Below is a list of those topics. Feel free to look them over. I can touch base on all of the topics or focus on the topics of your choice.

1. My three-year journey: I talk about illustrating and writing my first book entitled What is it? Birds and the series to follow, and how I came up with this unique idea for a children's book with sound and flaps. I talk about the passion and purpose behind this book and why I believe it to be an important interactive book for families today.

2. Living as an artist and author: What is it like to be an artist and author? I talk about some of the struggles and accomplishment that an artist and author may go through. I talk about painting commissions, entering competitions, going to art shows, marketing my artwork, and what it takes to produce and market a book.

3. Overcoming my addictions: I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I have been clean for the past 20 years-- my sobriety birthday is March 7th. I talk about alcoholism and drug abuse; how it affected my life and how I fought through these addictions and turned them around to make those experiences my strengths.

4. Living with dyslexia: I was diagnosed with a learning disability called dyslexia when I was a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. I did not graduate with a degree but I was at the right place at the right time. It was a load off my shoulders when I found out there was a name you could put to my problem. I talk about having this learning disability and my struggles growing up as a child, and how I now believe that my disability is actually a gift. I believe that if I didn't have dyslexia I wouldn't be an artist today. Dyslexia has since been broken down into different types of learning disabilities. My problem is reading, spelling, and most of all comprehension.

5. Serving: I believe that it is our responsibility to lead by example and be here for other people. I talk about how I've decided to serve by getting out and talking to our youth-- going to Head Start programs and child care centers to give book readings; or going to grade schools and high schools with the personal profile program I've developed.
